Meet Katie Brenny

Where is your farm located?

My farm, Brenny Farms, is owned and operated by my husband and me. Our farm is located in Mazeppa, MN.

Ted and Katie Brenny, 5th generation farmers who own and operate Brenny Farms.

What do you grow/raise on your farm?

We raise Angus and Charolais beef cattle.

How long have you been farming/how long have you or your family owned the farm?

I am a fifth-generation farmer. My husband and I moved onto our current farm in 2008. We are both busy with careers off the farm in agriculture, helping other farmers and are actively involved with several agriculture organizations as well. Our shared goal is to share our farm story with others.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

I enjoy answering questions about how agriculture works; how food, fiber and fuel are produced for everyone. The best part of agriculture is that everyone does it different but at the end of the day, there are food choices available to consumers in the grocery stores.

What is something you wish more people knew about farming?

What surprises most people about farming is the time that it takes. There is time involved in planning, growing the crop, raising the livestock, and all the business decisions that are made. It is not an 8-5 job, it is 365 days a year.

What does each season on the farm look like for you?

Each season looks different here on the farm. In the winter, we spend time wearing headlamps feeding hay to the cows for them to eat and keeping them bedded with straw to stay warm. In the spring, we are busy checking fence and we start to rotate cows in different pastures. Summer is about grass rotation and staying ahead of the weeds, and fall is busy with starting to feed hay.

What are ways our followers can support you and your farm throughout the year?

Ask questions, take a tour of farms, learn about agriculture, and EAT BEEF!
