Making Spirits Bright with J. Carver

Did you know corn is the primary grain used to make most American whiskeys, particularly bourbon? Barley, rye, and wheat are also commonly used in the distilling process; each bringing a unique taste and texture to the finished product. 

And what better way to celebrate the holiday season than with a perfectly crafted holiday cocktail?

Our friends at J. Carver Distillery in Waconia, MN have put together a few of their favorite cocktail recipes that are sure to make your upcoming party extra merry and bright.

Festive Runestone Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

2 oz Runestone Straight Rye 
½ oz spiced cranberry syrup (See “Festive Cran Cherry Old Fashioned Simple Syrup Recipe” below) 
2 dashes Dashfire Hibiscus Bitters (optional: Angostura Bitters)

Instructions:

Pour over fresh ice. Garnish with rosemary sprig, cranberries, and lemon peel.

Festive Cran Cherry Old Fashioned Simple Syrup Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups sugar
1 cup water
12 oz fresh cranberries
6 allspice berries 
2 sticks cinnamon sticks
2 star anise

Instructions:

Simmer all ingredients in a pot until sugar is dissolved. Let cool for a few hours. Strain into a clean jar. Keep refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Brickyard Old Fashioned

Ingredients:
2 oz J. Carver Brickyard Straight Bourbon
¼ oz Cruella Amaro  
½ oz simple syrup  
1 dash old fashioned bitters 

Instructions:

Pour over a large format ice cube and garnish with a cherry and orange peel.

Sevilla Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients:
2 oz J. Carver Sevilla Liqueur
5 oz hot apple cider
¾ oz spiced cranberry syrup (See recipe)

Instructions:

Heat Cider. Combine ingredients. Garnish with an orange peel and cranberries.
