Emily Beougher

Beef and Pork Producer

My dad and I work on our family farm together, we raise beef cows and pigs and also grow alfalfa. I grew up on my family’s sow farm and when I moved back five years ago we converted the barns to all nursery spaces. After college I had worked as a field rep for several hog companies managing barns and monitoring pig health. It was great to be able to work with different farmers every day and see a variety of farms.

Do you farm with family?

Yes, it’s my dad and I that work on the farm. We have 85 beef cow/calf herd and I take care of all the pigs. There are two sites that hold 4,200 pigs total. We help each other out and I’m slowly starting to buy pieces of land to take over. My mom will also help us on big days when we’re vaccinating cattle or processing calves.

What are your hobbies?

Cooking, Reading, Fitness, Gardening and Landscaping, and Volunteering.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

I want people to see and know that animals are treated humanely and that we are not “factory farms”. We very much care about the health and welfare of our animals, and ensure they receive the best care.

Tell us a quick story from the farm.

I feel so privileged to be able to raise my son on a farm and to teach him where his food comes from. It’s a joy to watch him grow up here and I’m very proud to be able to keep the farm in the family.
