Farmer, wife, mother and grandmother

My husband and I own and operate an independent farm raising corn, soybeans and pigs. We have farmed for nearly 40 years and oh, the changes we have seen over the years! I’m a mom and grandmother to three grown daughters, two son-in-laws and seven grandchildren. I have developed a true appreciation for agriculture over the years and work with Minnesota Ag in the Classroom to share my passion. I am also an active member of the Minnesota Pork Board.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

I feel it is important that we share information about how our food is raised. With so many consumers removed from the farm and how food is grown, there are a lot of misconceptions about what is and isn’t done. It really is about gaining trust from consumers and we do that by connecting with them listening to their concerns and answering their questions.

Tell us a quick story from the farm.

My husband Chuck and I farm in south central Minnesota. Chuck came from a farming family milking cows. I, on the other hand, never grew up on a farm. I learned to love the farming life after we married over 42 years ago. We have three grown daughters and seven grandchildren ranging from ages 5 months to 13 years. There isn’t anything better than having our grandchildren visit the wide-open spaces on the farm, watching pigs run around in their pens or riding in the tractor. I feel so very blessed with my life on the farm.
