Farmer, wife and mother

My husband and I crop farm with his father, uncle, and brothers, and they grow corn and soybeans. My father and uncle own the dairy farm that I grew up on in McLeod County where they raise all their own calves and grow corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and wheat. I was a stay-at-home mom to our 5 young boys for almost 11 years. I’m now entering my 2nd year as a preschool teacher at Fairmont Elementary School. I enjoy talking with other moms about farm life and the challenge of getting dinner on the table between farm chores, sports practices, meetings, and other commitments.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

It’s too easy for people to “ask Google” about farming and not know how to wade through all the misinformation and get to the real story. I love having the opportunity to tell my story of growing up on a farm, going to college for an agriculture-related degree, and being involved in agriculture on both sides of my family. I want other people in the community to think of me and my family when they have a question about farming and, most importantly, feel comfortable enough to reach out with their questions and concerns knowing they will get a genuine answer.

Tell us a quick story from the farm.

Growing up in agriculture and, now that I’ve been a farmers’ wife for more than ten years, I have a much greater appreciation for my mom and mother-in-law. There are a lot of hats to wear when there are young children involved for any parent, especially on the farm!
