Farmer + Agriculture Student Supporter

Growing up on a farm in western MN set me up for a strong future in agriculture. Not only does our family row crop farm and raise beef cattle, I am also a licensed agriculture teacher, working full time for the Minnesota FFA Association and the FFA Alumni and Supporters Association. I serve on the Stevens County FFA Alumni Board, Barnes-Aastad Soil and Water Conservation Research Association, Mini Sota Children’s Museum Board of Directors and the MN Beef Council.

Do you farm with family?

Our family is a bunch of farm people – My parents are retired farmers, my husband is an active farmer, seed and biological sales. and beef promotor. My son is going to post secondary school for precision agriculture and ag business and getting more involved in farm operations and my daughter will graduate in December with a degree in education with future hopes of teaching agriculture.

What are your hobbies?

I started my PhD this past year so that is my hobby! I also like to garden and bake.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

Being open to conversations about food and farming is one of the most important things we can do in agriculture! There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about food and agriculture and the truth is the best story to tell! Farmers care about animals, the land and the environment. Let’s talk!

Tell us a quick story from the farm.

Growing up on the farm wasn’t always easy, but my family always worked together. Now, raising our kids in agriculture, we have instilled in them the value of hard work and persistence, just like we were taught from our experiences. My favorite part of the farm now is watching my kids get involved, make decisions and share their stories with others.
