Erin Stackhouse
Mother, Farmer, & Agronomist
I farm alongside my father and husband, growing corn and soybeans. I’ve worked off the farm in retail agronomy for 12 years in addition to my work on the farm. The experience in that role has helped me make more informed agronomic decisions for the farm. In the last 10 years, I have been in charge of agronomic decisions for the farm, which has allowed my dad to focus more on marketing and equipment decisions. This partnership has allowed us to make better, more strategic decisions to ensure the farm’s success.
Do you farm with family?
Yes, I farm with my dad. My husband joined our operations in 2020 after we got married.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy playing volleyball, crafting, camping, spending time at the lake with family, & antique tractor shows with my dad.
Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?
Everything we do on the farm is done with careful thought and reasoning before we take any action. We spend months planning to ensure that what we do is not only the best for the environment but also for the crops we grow. I don’t think people fully understand the amount of planning, discussions, and consideration that goes into every decision we make these days. We’re also not afraid to explain why we do things the way we do. Our goal is always to grow the best possible crop, while keeping sustainability and quality at the forefront of everything we do.
Tell us a quick story from the farm.
In 1985, my dad made the decision to farm independently from his brothers. Since then, it’s been just him and my mom, working tirelessly to build their operation from the ground up. As the youngest of three daughters, my dad wasn’t sure if anyone in the family would be interested in continuing the farm. When I graduated high school, I wasn’t certain that agriculture was the path I wanted to take. However, after spending a year away, I realized that farming was where I truly belonged. I changed my major and returned to join the family operation in 2012. It has been an absolute joy to work alongside my dad and learn the ropes from him. It’s also been a true blessing to have my husband join the operation, adding to the family legacy.
