Farmer, wife and mother

My family lives & farms in Osceola, WI. My husband and I both work off the farm in the HVAC-R industry, and my three daughters (13, 15, and 17) also help on the farm. When I started as a CommonGround volunteer over a decade ago, our farm produced corn and soybeans. We have greatly expanded our farm to include a registered Hereford cow/calf operation and a large cash hay operation. We also have what I call the “Zoo”. This zoo includes show animals that our daughters show for 4-H, horses, donkeys, pigs, turkeys, chickens, (both layers & meat birds), and breeding goats. I have become the neighborhood egg dealer. Our family is very involved in our church and in our 4-H club.

Do you farm with family?

Yes. My husband and I farm with my in-laws. My mother in law retired from the school where she worked as a secretary and my father-in- law retired after more then 40 years as an agronomist for our local co-op.

Why is sharing information about agriculture and farming important to you?

I love to share my story and bridge the gap between farmers and consumers. There are so many concerns and misconceptions, and people really seem to be looking for a reliable resource on agriculture. I feel that, if we as farmers don’t take the time to make connections, share what we do and why we do it, farming as we know it will quickly change.

Tell us a quick story from the farm.

We are a multi-generational crop and cattle farm, always working to improve and grow the practices of our operation so we can leave it better for future generations. It has become such a joy to watch our daughters get involved with the farm and bring their own projects and perspectives into our operation. With such a passion for what we do, we take every opportunity we can to share this with others who don’t get to live life on a farm everyday.
